Lake Wylie July 4th fireworks
The lake's biggest night. Boats raft up near the Buster Boyd Bridge to watch a show paid for by community donations.
Quick answer
- When: usually July 4, starting around 9 pm, after dark.
- Where: over the water at the Buster Boyd Bridge (Hwy 49), launched from the Camp Thunderbird shoreline.
- Cost: free to watch. The show runs on donations.
Rain dates and times can change. Check local news and the Lake Wylie Chamber the week of the 4th.
Watching by boat
- Get to the bridge area before sunset. The best spots fill early.
- Anchor lights on once you stop. Running lights on when you move.
- The trip home is the risky part: a crowd of boats leaves at once, in the dark. Go slow and keep a sober driver.
- Boating under the influence is illegal in both NC and SC, so expect patrols that night.
Watching from land
- Restaurants by the bridge. Papa Doc's Shore Club, Rey Azteca's deck in Lake Wylie Plaza and other spots on Charlotte Hwy look toward the show. Expect waits and reservations.
- Parking is tight along Hwy 49 that night. Plan to arrive early or get dropped off.
Why it's crowdfunded
The fireworks have long been paid for by community donations. Back in 2012, organizers said the show cost about $25,000 a year. More Lake Wylie history.
